Review: Lavera After Sun Gel

A while ago, Ocebio, the Belgian distributor of some organic and natural cosmetic brands, kindly sent me a few samples to try. One of them was a Lavera after sun gel.

This came in very handy as the weather was very sunny this summer, and although I try to stay protected with my mineral sunscreen, sometimes I neglect to apply it. My skin can take a bit of sunshine without turning red, but when I stay in it too long, there’s no escape. So, one day I got a sunburn.

Shame on me!

Shame on me, I know. But it was an opportunity to test the after sun gel I received, and so I did.

Review: Lavera Sun Sensitiv After Sun Gel

“100% natural, the After Sun Gel cools down and refreshes the skin after sunbathing. Organic aloe vera and cactus extract, the two main ingredients of this product, provide the skin with intensive moisturisation. Together with organic extracts from lavender and rose petals they relieve the taut skin feeling from lack of moisture. Organic liquorice root extracts soothe the skin while yeast derived betaglucan acts skin-strengthening."

Ingredients: CTFA/INCI: Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Alcohol*, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Rhizobian Gum, Menthol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract*, Opuntia Ficus- Indica Stem Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Water*, Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Betaglucan, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Limonene**, Linalool**, Geraniol**, Citronellol**, Citral**, Coumarin**, Benzyl Benzoate**, Eugenol**
*ingredients from certified organic agriculture
** natural essential oils

It has Natrue certificate and is vegan. Lavera doesn’t test on animals.

The packaging

This after sun gel comes in a regular tube like so many others. It has the typical Lavera design. Not much to say on this part.

The test

Before going to bed on that sunburned day, I applied the gel to the affected area. The gel felt cool on my skin, it was very smooth to rub in and it was absorbed really fast: it just sank right into my skin. My skin didn’t feel greasy afterwards, but was soft and shiny. The smell of this gel is also all right, it’s not overly perfumed which I can’t stand, so that’s good.

When I woke up, all the sunburn had disappeared. For me, that shows this is decent stuff, nourishing and helping your skin repair itself. I have to say with my skin, sunburns never stay that long, but this was a pretty red area and it was completely gone the next morning. Of course, I don’t know how it would have been if I skipped the after sun gel.

Conclusion

Normally I use after sun gel only when I get sunburned, which doesn’t happen often. The gel spread easily so I didn’t need to apply much. This means the tube will last me quite a while, which of course I always like in products. It does all the things I expect from an after sun product, so I’m happy with it and probably will purchase again.
